WWE: 5 Best SummerSlam Gimmick Matches Of All Time

5. Rey Mysterio vs. Eddie Guerrero: Custody Over Dominick Ladder Match (2005)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YHxA347Jsog Rey Mysterio Jr and Eddie Guerrero had many matches over the years, both in WWE and before in WCW, but this one was probably their most high profile match. The build up to the match was Eddie threatening to reveal a dark secret of Rey€™s past to Mysterio€™s son Dominick. The two had even wrestled a match to determine whether Guerrero would reveal the secret. Fortunately for Rey Rey, he was able to overcome Latino Heat€™s best efforts and win the day. Unfortunately as everyone knew and fondly remembers about the late Guerrero...he lies. It was a great idea for a storyline. These two wrestlers who had been linked for a lot of their careers were now found in their most personal battle when Guerrero revealed that he was the actual father of Mysterio€™s son Dominick. Dominick (who in real life was Mysterio€™s son and not Guerrero) became an onscreen character during this feud, as did Eddie€™s wife Vickie in her days before she became one of the companies top heels. The only downside to this feud was that anyone who had watched WCW in late 99 or the early noughties who easily recognised Dominick as the spitting image of Rey Mysterio Jr without a mask. The match itself was awesome and really showcased why both Mysterio and Guerrero were true main event players. It€™s often argued that smaller guys who perform in gimmick matches such as ladder matches simply pull off spot after spot and are glorified stunt men, but this match not only showed off their high flying and technical ability, but also their ability to tell a good story in the ring as their characters. One funny bit to watch out for is when Vickie Guerrero misses her cue to get involved in the match by a clear two minutes and Eddie flips his lid both visibly and audibly about the ruined spot. He literally has a temper tantrum and goes mental, which is funniest perhaps because if he hadn€™t highlighted when she had missed her entrance the match it really wouldn€™t have been obvious.
