WWE Brings Back The BLOOD
Does Becky Lynch bleeding on Raw indicate a WWE policy change on the red stuff?
WWE may have "changed their tune" regarding the use of blood in its PG product, speculates Dave Meltzer.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Meltzer spoke of Becky Lynch getting colour during a match with Nia Jax on this Monday's special 'Day 1' episode of Raw. In a scene reminiscent of the wayward Jax punch that left Becky with a bloodied nose ahead of Survivor Series 2018, infamously ruling Lynch out of that pay-per-view, 'The Men' bled from the mouth on Raw.
Unusual for WWE's highly regulated, squeaky-clean product. Even more unusual was the announcers actively drawing attention to the bloodletting, using terms like "bloodbath" in the process.
Meltzer ruminated on WOR that WWE using and putting attention on the blood was not an accident. He commented that although the promotion has long trumpeted the idea that its competitors using blood is bad for the business, WWE changed its tune on Raw.
The market leaders are typically very wary of using blood, saving it for rare moments like Brock Lesnar's bludgeoning of Randy Orton at SummerSlam 2016. Whether Lynch's Raw colour signals the start of a new trend remains to be seen, however.
