Love him or hate him there is no denying the unprecedented cross-over success of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. So successful has he been in his new career as a movie star it is possible to forget he was a very successful wrestler long before tinseltown came calling and to celebrate this fact and also celebrate the triumphant return to the squared circle of the Brahma Bull who took the WWE Title from CM Punk at the Royal Rumble… here is a list of his top ten matches from his WWE career.
10. The Rock vs Chris Jericho – No Mercy 2001
2001 was a great year for The Rock. He cemented his road out of the WWE and into Hollywood and still found time to contribute an exceptional body of work. 2001 was The Rock’s best ever year creatively and this clash with Chris Jericho from the No Mercy pay per view emphasises how much he had grown as a performer.
This is a confident and self assured Rock more than holding his own with the incredibly impressive Jericho. A fast paced and intricate technical sequences made this match quite a challenge but Rocky was up to it and delivered a stirring contest that has stood the test of time well.
9. The Rock vs Steve Austin – WrestleMania 15
The first of four Rock vs Austin entries in this top 10 proving beyond any doubt who the best opponent for the Great One has always been. Austin seemed to inspire The Rock to give more and try that bit harder. Their clash in the main event of Wrestlemania 15 was a storming brawl with some very good false finishes thrown in and tremendous crowd heat thrown in from the passionate philly crowd.
