WWE Concerned About John Cena's Health And Future In Wrestling

News on why WWE is concerned about the health of their biggest star.

John Cena has been WWE's undisputed top performer for past decade. Now that he's 37 years old and been a top guy for the past decade, there are concerns about his health. A new report from PWInsider note that there has been talk within WWE for about 6-8 weeks that Cena is still having problems with his shoulder in addition to having more issues with his neck. Both injuries are long term nagging issues that Cena has been dealing with for many years. Cena had neck surgery in 2008 and as we've seen with guys like Steve Austin and Edge over the years, those kinds of injuries don't go away. While his surgery in 2008 wasn't as major as the ones those guys had, it was still significant even though he was back to work as if nothing was wrong with him. The arm injuries have been there for years too. He's been dealing with that including a surgery on his arm last summer. As we also know, Cena has incredible healing powers and came back from injury in two months even though the initial diagnosis was a four month absence. There's also a feeling within WWE that Cena could transition more into acting and not wrestling as often. Cena's filmed two big budget movies this year, which is different than a typical straight to DVD release that WWE puts out there. Being a part of major motion pictures like Trainwreck (a Judd Apatow film) and The Nest (starring Tina Fey & Amy Poehler) will expose Cena to a bigger audience and it could be the kind of thing that leads to more major roles in the future. He can talk all he wants about being WWE for life, but if you can make huge money doing films without taking bumps five days per week then that's something he is going to consider. Look at The Rock as an example of that. Batista's following that path too. John Cena Injury As we have noted in the past, Cena has missed several WWE live events (including Raw a few times) in the past few months due to filming these movies. It has allowed his body to heal a bit although he's still working a full schedule because that's what he does. The report goes on to note that there are people within WWE that believe Cena appears to be in pain and that it's noticeable that he has slowed down physically in the way he moves. It might not be noticeable for us as fans, but people within the company that have seen him for over a decade would know better than us. If he is in that kind of pain then why is he taking 16 German Suplexes in a match that saw him land on his neck very hard a number of times? Obviously he was trying to put over Brock Lesnar in a major way at SummerSlam, but they need to be smart about things like that too. There are no indications that Cena is about to slow down or that WWE is going to force him to take time off, but it's definitely something to keep an eye on. Nobody can wrestle forever. Not even John Cena.
