Stephanie McMahon promised a "historic announcement" on last night's Raw, and delivered Evolution: WWE's first ever women's pay-per-view.

The event will take place in Uniondale, New York on 28 October. Per the official release, it'll be streamed live on the Network, with championship matches from Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and the upcoming NXT UK brand all set to take place, as well as the Mae Young Classic 2018 finals.

WWE gathered their roster on the stage for the news, with Stephanie, Vince, and Triple H delivering their address in Raw's opening segment.

As far as participants go, Steph mentioned that over 50 WWE women past and present will be involved, with Hall of Famers Trish Stratus and Lita mentioned on the website.

Rumours are already swirling, with Dave Meltzer speculating that Alexa Bliss and Carmella could lose their respective titles before the PPV. On last night's Wrestling Observer Radio, he noted that there's a feeling within the company that the duo's matches "have not been good," and that closing Evolution with one of them "is going to be a struggle."

28 October is still three months away. A lot will happen between now and then, but given the heavy promotional push women's wrestling has received in recent years, we can expect Evolution's build to receive a strong focus.
