WhatCulture.com has learned that AJ Styles is not suffering from a series of niggling injuries that has forced WWE to give him time off ahead of Extreme Rules.

Numerous reports surfaced today suggesting the number one contender for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship has been sent home to rest ahead of the company's next pay per view, but these rumours are false.

We've learned that Styles hit his ankle on the commentators' table during Monday night's RAW, and WWE wanted to make sure there wasn't a hairline fracture so kept him out of the ring during Tuesday's SmackDown taping.

The Phenomenal One is fine, and will be ready for all of next week's televised shows.

This could explain the change in SmackDown's card as a match between Luke Gallows and Roman Reigns was advertised but didn't take place. Instead, Gallows and partner Karl Anderson took on The Usos, with no reference made to the advertised match. AJ only appeared in a backstage segment with Gallows and Karl Anderson.

AJ has been one of WWE's most consistent performers since joining the main roster at the Royal Rumble in January. Since then he's barely missed a beat, feuding with Chris Jericho ahead of WrestleMania before his current programme with WWE champ Reigns.
