An impressive performance in the Cruiserweight Classic eventually led to (Mustafa) Ali joining 205 Live in December 2016. The cruiserweight division was the perfect platform for Ali to showcase his jaw-dropping athleticism and high-flying ability. Fans also got to witness Ali adding a comedy element to his match when he nailed Ariya Daivari with a broomstick-aided leg drop off the top rope during the Halloween-themed episode in 2017.
Ali then spent the majority of 2018 battling the likes of Buddy Murphy and Hideo Itami. The (former) Heart of 205 Live driving Murphy’s face onto the apron with a Rolling X-Factor was the most memorable spot from their rivalry.
Ali’s feud with Itami ended after he put The Japanese Sensation through the table with a 450 Splash, and in December 2018, the high-flyer was “promoted” to SmackDown, beforing competing in numerous high-profile matches at the start of 2019. One of them was the Money in the Bank Ladder Match which featured Ali sending Andrade crashing to the mat with a massive Spanish Fly off the ladder, ensuring his spot on future highlight reels of the pay-per-view.
