WWE Invasion 2001: 5 Awesome Things And 5 That Sucked

A look back at one of WWE's most profitable shows ever...

Wwf Invasion The 2001 WWE Invasion PPV was held on July 22, 2001 in Cleveland, Ohio. It was the only time that WWE used the Invasion title for a PPV because it was the only occasion where it would have fit. That's because the main story at the time was about the WCW brand led by Shane McMahon and the ECW brand led by Stephanie McMahon & Paul Heyman were trying to take over Vince McMahon's WWE. It was a dream storyline that fans had wanted to see for years. While it wasn't perfect for a lot of reasons, they did a fantastic job of building up the event, which did great business for WWE with a reported 775,000 PPV buys. From a financial standpoint it was one of the most successful WWE PPVs ever. This show was unique because there wasn't a WWE Title match in the main event slot. That's because the WWE Champion Steve Austin was a part of WWE's team the ten man tag that headlined the show. Here's the full lineup from the PPV portion of the show: 1. Edge & Christian d. Lance Storm & Mike Awesome 2. Earl Hebner d. Nick Patrick (Mick Foley was special referee) 3. Acolytes Protection Agency (Faarooq & Bradshaw) d. The Natural Born Thrillers (Sean O'Haire & Chuck Palumbo) 4. Billy Kidman d. X-Pac 5. Raven d. William Regal 6. Chris Kanyon, Shawn Stasiak & Hugh Morrus d. Billy Gunn, Big Show & Albert 7. Tajiri d. Tazz 8. Rob Van Dam d. Jeff Hardy (Hardcore Match for Hardcore Title) 9. Trish Stratus & Lita d. Torrie Wilson & Stacy Keibler (Bra and Panties match with Mick Foley as referee) 10. The Alliance (Booker T, Diamond Dallas Page, Rhyno and The Dudley Boyz) d. Team WWE (Steve Austin, Kurt Angle, Chris Jericho, The Undertaker and Kane) I re-watched the three hour event and have plenty of things to say about it. Before it begins, just remember that even though the company was called WWF at the time, we're going to use WWE because that's what they're called now. We begin with the five awesome things and then ranking of the five things that sucked.
