WWE: Paige Stripped Of NXT Women's Title

The new WWE Divas Champion Paige has garnered a lot of attention since winning the Divas Title from AJ Lee on the April 7th edition of Raw. Fans that are familiar with the NXT brand know that she's a really talented wrestler with a bright future while those that only knew her from Raw have quickly grown to appreciate how talented she is. Now that she's the Divas Champion, WWE has made the decision to strip her of the Women's Championship in NXT. A report from PWInsider notes that NXT General Manager JBL will strip Paige of her NXT Women's Title because she can't hold that title and the WWE Divas Title at the same time. The segment will feature Paige initially refusing but finally agreeing. The segment was taped on Monday. There will be WWE NXT tapings Thursday night in Orlando, Florida where WWE is expected to start a tournament to crown a new NXT Women's Champion or come up with something else to determine a new champion. They tape NXT episodes on a monthly basis. It was an interesting decision to not have Paige lose the NXT Women's Title prior to her main roster debut because most champions drop their titles before that. A tournament could be interesting with the likes of Bayley, Charlotte (Ric Flair's daughter) and Sasha Banks as the top contenders. As for Paige, she is scheduled to defend the WWE Divas Championship against Tamina Snuka at Extreme Rules on May 4th. It's expected that she'll retain the title. The former Divas Champion AJ Lee has requested for some time off, which has been granted, so she's currently at home. She'll likely return at some point soon after Extreme Rules to get her rematch against Paige and build on that rivalry. If you're able to watch NXT on WWE Network or on television depending on where you live you should do it because that's the only place where you'll see WWE's stars of tomorrow today.
