WWE Raw Books Michael Cole With Same Injury That Killed Perro Aguayo Jr

Insensitive script just weeks after Perro Aguayo Jr death.

WWE booked Michael Cole to take a Brock Lesnar F5 this week on Raw. Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio says that it was then announced later in Raw that Cole had suffered a "cervical fracture" and "damaged vertebrae" in the attack. This is of course the same injury that ultimately caused Perro Aguayo Jr to die in the ring at a AAA show in Mexico on March 20th. Meltzer and the wider wrestling community have expressed disappointment with WWE's booking mirroring this real life incident. While it was probably a genuine oversight on WWE's part, you have to consider how many people behind the scenes read the script. What has taken place is either ignorance or insensitivity. The WWE website is continuing to report that Cole suffered a "possible cervical fracture." It is of course just a storyline and the 46 year old announcer is fine. Perro Aguayo Jr legitimately died after suffering a fractured spine which triggered a cardiac arrest during his match with Manik against Rey Mysterio Jr and Xtreme Tiger a couple of weeks ago. WWE talent, including Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, tweeted their condolences. So they absolutely knew about the story and the circumstances. How terrible that they then allowed a script to go out that used the exact same injury in a fictional light.
