WWE Raw Review - Looking At The "Queen Takes King" Edition

WWE-Raw-logo Raw this week emanated from Hartford, Connecticut just a few weeks away from the Payback pay-per-view Chicago. Payback definitely seem to be the word of the night. As scheduled for a rematch was Triple H versus Curtis Axel following the events of a few weeks ago. However, it soon became a family affair with the reappearance of the one and only Billion-Dollar Princess Stephanie McMahon and daddy dearest Vince McMahon. The opening segment this week involves Stephanie and Vince pleading with the fans to agree with their decision that Triple H would not compete against Curtis Axel. Even at one point saying, that The Game was beneath Axel and should not risk his health for someone on his level. I know what they're going for making Triple H a Rocky like figure competing against the odds. But it just didn't work well. WWE has set such a superhuman precedent with John Cena, that any other injury or plea for mercy. With an injustice committed against the WWE universe, who shows up but The Shield as the chairman and his daughter are still standing in the ring. The show goes to commercial and you expect a cool moment in which the Hounds of Justice will face feels that creators of the hypocrisy of WWE €the McMahons. But no, instead we go directly into the first match of the evening with no incident whatsoever during the commercial as The Shield battles Team Hell No and Randy Orton. I know it would have convoluted storylines to have Rollins, Reigns and Ambrose interact with the McMahons. It would've also made a cool moments see those forces interact for more than a few seconds before the babyfaces came out. WWE really needs more moments like that to make things stand out in a very repetitive product these days. The six man tag match itself was pretty good being heavily dominated by an overly motivated Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton. Words cannot describe the ability of Daniel Bryan in this contest. He went on a flurry that only to be seen. Interesting to see Kane never really got in the contest, except at the end. The Shield comes out victorious after a miscommunication between Orton and Daniel Bryan leads to the victory by Dean Ambrose. I wonder if this will lead to a match between Daniel Bryan and Orton at Payback? After a commercial, an incensed Daniel Bryan alongside Kane and Randy Orton argues that his partners did not trust him because he is the weak link in their team. Bryan says he will battle again tonight and he will prove them wrong. I really like this character and a motivated Daniel Bryan. I'm anxious to see what happens when he finally turns his focus on Kane being lesser member of the team perhaps taking the Big Red Machine out of action for good. Triple H arrived at the arena to have a conference with both his wife and father-in-law on why he cannot compete tonight. This is overwrought with drama as Vince and Stephanie use the COO's real name (just to let you know that it's a serious situation) as Vince and Stephanie once again reiterate that Axel is beneath the King of Kings. They also do a bit of creative interpretation as they say Axel is the one that injured The Game with the postconcussion syndrome. In reality, Hunter was the one that made the match. I appreciate them trying to right the wrong of Curtis Axel's debut, but it really came off as forced. Then again so did most of the segment, which the audience really wasn't buying. The door shuts in the office of the chairman between Stephanie and her husband. We will see them again later on in the evening. We then go back to the arena as the newly painted up Usos in the style of their cousin the late Umaga. I called them Twomaga on Twitter. I'm glad Samoan siblings are getting a focus, but do they really need another gimmick? What's next for them eating chicken carcasses? I mean, the whole reason I liked those guys originally was that they weren't stereotypical Samoan wrestling stereotype, but slowly and surely WWE is making them one. if you're going to do this, can we at least get Armando Estrada back as a manager? Anyway, the brothers get a victory over the Primetime Players and we move forward in the show. As WWE continues to push in the future of the tag division. However, we are no closer to a number one contender for the titles yet. Next, we get what is referred to as a rubber match between Alberto del Rio and Big E. Langston. Overall, a great match. I like the fact that they learned from previous encounters. Del Rio would use that knowledge to make sure that Langston would not counter the cross arm breaker this time using leverage once again to pin the big once again. The pin itself looked rather sloppy as it did not look like Langston's shoulders were down for the three. There was no real progression in the AJ-Langston storyline. There was also no Dolph as well which also surprised me considering he appeared out the house shows over the weekend. Next up, we have a match between Cody Rhodes and Sheamus. Altogether, a solid contest as to be expected from these two.The cheap plug for Mrs. JBL and her book from Mister Sandow was clever to say the least. However, the focus was really on the mental games of Damien Sandow and the Celtic Warrior. Sheamus after the match gets in the face of the Intellectual Savior of the Masses at ringside. I imagine these two will have a match at Payback. Because otherwise what are you doing this for? And can Damien get the better of Sheamus once? The show comes back from commercial and we see Triple H who says that he is leaving the arena saying he doesn't want his children see their father battle their grandfather. The Game is very angry and proclaims over the chairman comments earlier saying his ego was getting the best of him. Triple H says that no matter what anyone says next week he will fight Curtis Axel on Raw as Hunter gets in the limo and drives away. We hear an update on the condition of Kofi Kingston after his run-in with Ryback on Smackdown. Kofi had surgery on his elbow to fix nagging injuries. I wish him nothing but the best and a speedy recovery. Enjoy your time with your new son. Daniel Bryan is backstage pacing back and forth when a very menacing Ryback comes into the picture. Ryback gloats that Kofi Kingston had surgery this past week and tells Daniel that the same will happen to him later on in tonight's second match for Bryan. Daniel says he's not scared of the Ryback. Ryback says Daniel is crazy and want him to prove he's not scared in tonight's match. The weak link versus the missing link. We see another Bray Wyatt promo even better the last week's I can't wait to see what these guys do. I really think they will be the next big thing. Vince McMahon welcomes Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman into his office. McMahon says there will be no match tonight with Triple H. Heyman and Axel begin to leave and Vince stops them. the chairman says Axel will have a match tonight, a no disqualification match against John Cena. Heyman was great during the segment as Curtis just felt like background in the McMahon-Heyman show. The next few segments are little strange as the Punjabi Playboy wins his match with a running Fandango by count out after taking a beating. The Miz tries to stop the dancing superstar from exiting the arena when Wade Barrett nails the Bull Hammer on the stage. Next up, Barrett goes one-on-one with the Miz. You would think that would lead to Barrett getting the advantage during the match. However, that's far from the case. After a dancing distraction from Fandango,The Miz slaps on the figure four and wins rather easily against Barrett. I imagine we're getting a three-way for the Intercontinental championship in Chicago at Payback. We have contract signing between Paul Heyman and Chris Jericho which really felt like filler as Heyman felt more like the butt of the joke again. Although hearing the two battle back and forth over fun facts of both CM punk and geography was kind of cute. But a match really should've gone there. Heyman even said he never understood why they didn't just do this in the back and I agree. The divas take center stage in six woman tag action as Kaitlyn, Cameron and Naomi battle the Bellas and AJ. The announcers bring up that Kaitlyn's friends are getting annoyed by the secret admirer. Does that mean that Kaitlyn is going heel? Hopefully they will not edit it out of the show this time. In the end Kaitlyn wins with a spear after AJ distracts the Bellas by leaving them high and dry. Kane and Daniel Bryan have the obligatory weekly please don't do this segment on Raw. Coming back from commercial, Ryback once again entering in an ambulance to battle Daniel Bryan. Overall, the match was really good. With Daniel Bryan got a ton of offense in on the cyborg like Ryback. Then the man with the destructive appetite started to get frustrated. So Ryback when under the ring and got a table driving Bryan through getting disqualified. Ryback looks to do more damage when John Cena comes down his standoff with his opponent in two weeks. This brings out Curtis Axel and the match begins with John Cena as Ryback disappears. The two go back and forth using weapons. At one point, Heyman even grabbed the laptop from the announce table and gave it to Axel to use. In the end, however it is a reappearance from Ryback that leads to another count out victory for Axel. The final image of the show being John Cena driven through a table against the security wall as Ryback screams to get up. All in all, not a bad show. The Triple H storyline was a tad overpowering and landed really flat. Other than that, you should check out the Daniel Bryan stuff and pretty much nothing else.
