Having been a prominent part of NXT UK, this past week saw WWE release Sid Scala.

PWInsider were the first to report the news, with this bringing an end to Scala's WWE tenure after more than five years with the market leader.

Joining NXT UK in 2018, the Englishman served a variety of roles with that developmental brand, beginning his WWE life as an in-ring competitor before becoming the NXT UK Assistant General Manager under the wing of Johnny Saint. Away from that, Scala had operated as a coach and producer for NXT UK behind the scenes, but he'd not been used by WWE since that UK arm closed its doors in September 2022.

Despite still being under the employ of WWE up until now, Sid Scala had been able to wrestle for other promotions, with his most recent match coming last May for SIW out of Italy. Prior to that, the talent had wrestled various British independent shows in the aftermath of NXT UK being put on indefinite hiatus.

Of course, NXT UK closed to make way for NXT Europe, although that new brand and training system has yet to launch, with the COVID-19 pandemic and the WWE-UFC merger just a couple of reasons for that delayed launch.
