WWE: Rey Mysterio Expected To Be Released Soon?

rey-mysterio Injuries are a tough thing to deal with in professional wrestling. It's one of those things where you might go your whole career without anything significant and then one nagging injury leads to others down the road. In the case of Rey Mysterio, knee injuries have really slowed him down to the point that he's become an irrelevant performer in WWE even though he was a top guy for the majority of his career. In addition to his health concerns, there are some doubts about his future in WWE as well. A report from PWInsider states that there has been a lot of discussion within WWE about Rey Mysterio's future with the company over the last few days. Mysterio's deal expires in 3 months and since he's no longer a top guy, the belief among some is that he is preparing to finish up his last run with the company as he finishes up his contract. It makes a lot of sense that he would be content to wrap up his WWE career once the deal expires because there's no indication that WWE has any plans to give him a push again. He's basically a tag wrestler at this point that barely gets a reaction anymore. The report goes on to say that the people that speculate he's leaving soon also believe that he could end up on the new AAA TV show that debuts on the El Rey Network this fall. Why is it appealing? Because he could a major name on that show. Konnan, who remains a close friend with Mysterio, will play a big part of the new AAA TV show. Tapings for AAA TV begin this August in Los Angeles. It makes a lot of sense for Rey to end up on AAA TV because he's arguably one of the biggest Mexican wrestling stars of the last 20 years and one of the biggest names of all time in Mexico. He may not have any drawing power left in WWE, but in Mexico he sure does. As Mysterio's WWE career comes to close, fans should appreciate how great of a talent he was in his early 20s in WCW. If you have WWE Network, check out the 1997 Halloween Havoc match with Rey and Eddie Guerrero. It's an all time great. His WWE career lasted about 12 years. It looks like it will be over soon. Hopefully he's able to finish off his career the way he wants and without any more major injuries as well.
