WWE Smackdown Review 14/10/11 - Mark Henry vs Randy Orton World Title Again

Randy Orton wins 41 Man Battle Royal to win World Title shot of his choosing and once again decides to challenge Mark Henry!

Friday Night Smackdown! October 14th 2011 9 Days before Vengeance, we are in Dallas and Teddy Long is kicking off the show. And joining him on stage is the new interim General Manager, John Laurinaitis. God I hate spelling that. He€™s Johnny Ace from now on. Long reminds us that tonight€™s Smackdown becomes second longest running episodic television show behind Raw. Ace says he€™s here lending Raw support. Long announces the largest Battle Royal in WWE history, Ace adds that the winner gets to choose a title and get a match TONIGHT! €œIf you€™re ready to see this Battle Royal start right now. Give me a HOLLA HOLLA HOLLA!€ And I assume someone gave him one, because here comes the entire Raw roster followed closely by Smackdown. Matt Striker is even wrestling. 41 Man Battle Royal for a Title Shot of Winner€™s Choosing Ring the bell. Cody gets eliminated IMMEDIATELY by Randy Orton and he is understandably livid. Johnny Curtis goes out just after that. It€™s one of those crazy Battle Royals where you cant really see anything happening for a while at the start. Out goes JTG. Good. McGillicuty next, then Derrick Bateman. On the other side Yoshi Tatsu goes out. I€™ve missed someone already, I think it was another NXT guy. Matt Striker is tossed, Booker T is disappointed. Its commercial time and when we come back€ it looks exact same. Josh tells us we€™re down to 32. The Black Sin Cara is in there but no Blue. William Regal gets thrown out. Percy Watson out. John Morrison out, and Dolph Ziggler just after. Trent Baretta goes out hard on the floor. Miz eliminates an Uso. Orton and CM Punk are struggling with each other on the ropes. Zeke tosses, I think DiBiase. Then Tyson Kidd is out. Booker picks out Drew McIntyre. I don€™t think s Book. Another commercial. We come back to Daniel Bryan hitting the floor. Tyler Reks goes out, immediately followed by Curt Hawkins both by Mason Ryan. Now there goes Drew, again by Ryan, who then presses Justin Gabriel to the outside. Wade Barrett sneaks up and eliminates Mason. CM Punk boots Primo off the apron. Remember Primo. Santino tries an apron Cobra, but Christian just decks him to the floor. Alex Riley thrown out by Miz which Miz enjoys. Kofi skins the cat and tries to head scissor Swagger out. Swagger blocks and gets him in the Ankle Lock then kicks him out. Josh tells us down to 15 as Zack Ryder is thrown out making it 14. Sheamus disposes of Otunga. Then the other Uso. Zeke lifts Sheamus up, who counters then clotheslines Zeke out. THEN he pump kicks Heath off the apron. Sin Cara Black charges Sheamus, Sheamus catches him in a power bomb and bombs him to the outside on top of the recently eliminated pile. Sheamus takes a few seconds to pump up the crowd, Christian charges with a Spear. Sheamus blocks it, sets up for the Cross, Christian counters. Sheamus blocks an elimination attempt then throws Christian over the top. Jinder Mahal decks Sheamus. CM Punk takes out R Truth, but Miz is right up behind Punk to eliminate him. Sheamus with the Brogue Kick to Miz who slides outside but NOT over the top rope. So far this is Sheamus Battle Royal. Outside, Punk and R Truth are brawling and Christian uses the distraction to run back in and throw Sheamus out. Sheamus chases him to the back. Randy Orton tosses Barrett. RKO on Swagger. He eliminates Swagger. RKO to Jinder who is the last man (apart from Miz.) He eliminates Jinder, Miz runs in to try and toss Orton but Orton hands on! Miz sets up for his corner clothesline. Orton decks him. Snap power slam. Orton calls for the RKO. Miz counters, goes for the Finale, Orton throws him to apron. Miz takes Orton to the apron with him. They brawl on the apron. Orton gets pushed into the ring post but he boots Miz, gives him an RKO on the apron and they both hit the floor! The refs seem pretty certain that Miz hit the floor first and Replays do indeed confirm. Randy Orton is your winner. Man that was awkward to write about. Josh gets in the ring and asks Randy who he wants to face. Orton chooses Mark Henry. Backstage, Kelly and Eve are walking! When we come back from commercial Alberto and Rodrigo are leaving. Teddy Long catches up and Alberto reasons that since Orton chose Henry, why should he stay? Long tells him hes facing Sheamus. Beth Phoenix vs. Kelly Kelly Has Natalya had a match since these two got together? Kelly showing some needed fire in the early going, but Beth breaks her with a tilt a whirl back breaker. Kelly fires back again with a Lou Thesz press. She then manages a nice DDT on Beth. She goes for the back spring elbow, but Beth catches and dumps her on the apron. She drags her back into the ring and up into the GLAM SLAM! One, Two, Three! Sin Cara Blue was supposed to be fighting, but we cut backstage to see the Black one assaulting him. He takes his mask off and walks talking to it. (We never see the face obviously.) Black Sin Cara, with his back to the camera takes off his own mask and puts on the blue one. Justin Gabriel vs. Sin Cara Black (€and Blue) Michael Cole does his best to clear up the Sin Cara back story. Telling us that Black is the original, Blue stole his identity to come to WWE, Black showed up to get him. All I know is, I hate these Sin Cara lights. Gabriel With a nice twisting cross body to the outside. He springboards back in and is met in mid air with a dropkick from Cara. Justin manages a quick and high slam and goes up top. Sin Cara pushes him down and goes up himself. Swanton Bomb. One, Two, Three. Looks like Justin Gabriel€™s movement up the card is on hold. Anyone else think some guys could benefit from a cruiserweight/X Division? Backstage Air Boom are with Teddy Long. Vickie comes in and thinks her men should get a tag title match tonight. Zack Ryder comes in and tells her that since hes the Assistant TO the General Manager, he can put himself in the match instead of the hurt Evan Bourne. Alberto Del Rio vs. Sheamus Sheamus manages to get Del Rio into the ropes and club away at him. Short arm clothesline. Del Rio gets a nice flying dropkick then gets on top with right hands. Del Rio goes to the arm, and drops Sheamus arm onto his double knees. Del Rio charges Sheamus in the corner but meets an elbow. Sheamus drops him a few times then gives him a power slam. Irish Curse Back Breaker good for two. Sheamus goes to the top, Ricardo gets on the apron to distract. The ref is getting Ricardo out of there and CHRISTIAN runs to the ring and pushes Sheamus off the top. Alberto takes the advantage and pins Del Rio. Sheamus hides at the ring apron with his trademark grin. He gets in the ring as Alberto leaves and drops Sheamus with a Spear. He starts making his way to the back, but when he sees Sheamus get back up, he comes back in and gives him another. Commentators really getting over how Sheamus is able to struggle up from both spears. Swiggler vs. Air Woo Woo They should seriously hire me to help with naming gimmicks. Swagger flattens Ryder with a belly suplex then tags in Dolph. Ziggler neck breaker for two. Dolph sticks the knee in the neck of Zack for a while. Ryder comes off the ropes with a face buster and tags Kofi. Kofi gets the Boom Drop on Ziggler! Calls for Trouble in Paradise. Swagger pulls out Dolph but Kofi charges anyway and flips to the outside on top of them. Which must mean its commercial break time. When we come back, Dolph has Kofi in a rest hold, then drops him with a Fame Asser. Tag to Swagger. Swagger is all over Kofi with shoulders in the corner. He places him on the top rope and gives him a few slaps. Kofi responds by spinning Swagger out into a Tornado DDT! Both men down, struggling to their corners. Tags on both ends! Ryder is all over Dolph. Face Wash (Broski Boot) in the corner. Only a two €œAre you serious Bro!?€ Dolph charges at Ryder but gets two knees in his face. Ryder goes for the Ruff Ryder, Dolph ducks, catches him in the Sleeper! Ryder builds some momentum and shakes Dolph off sending him into the corner post shoulder first. Ryder crawls along to Kofi but Swagger runs in and takes Kofi off the apron. The ref gets Swagger out of there and behind his back Kofi hits Dolph with the Trouble in Paradise!! He puts Ryder on top of Ziggler, the ref turns around, that there€™s a three count! Backstage, Striker is with a pacing Sheamus who says Christian is a pain in the arse he cant get rid of. Sheamus tells an old Irish story about a Troll who kept biting people in the arse. But one day a big white bull took the Troll out. Being Irish, this is not a real story. Sheamus promises to boot Christian€™s face right off his skull. Last week Big Show cried and then destroyed Mark Henry. World Heavyweight Title - Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton Lockup, Henry wont clean break but Orton gets some shots in. Lures him into the corner again for more. Henry reverses a whip, Orton comes back with a clothesline. Doesn€™t fell Henry. Orton all over him with strikes, taking him down to one knee. He goes for a DDT but Henry shoves him all the way to the outside. They fight out onto the floor. Back in the ring Henry is in complete control. Shoulder hold from Henry. Orton fights out but gets flattened again. Orton with another fight back, Mark Henry with another flatten. When we come back from another break, Henry has Orton stuck in the corner. Running Power Slam gets Henry a two count. Body Slam and a Big Splash. Again a two. Henry drags him to the corner, goes for the Vader Bomb but Orton gets two feet in his face. Orton cant drop him with clotheslines but a big dropkick works. Cody Rhodes appears on the apron, distracting Orton and causing a DQ! Rhodes is all over Orton with strikes and brings a paper bag into the ring again. Big Show runs out and brawls with Henry. He catches Orton in a choke and throws him into an RKO! Orton then throws Henry into a Choke Slam to return the favour. Orton and Big Show stand tall to end the show!
