WWE Wanted Will Ospreay For Cruiserweight Classic?

The British high flyer was on WWE's want-list, but other commitments seemingly got in the way.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is reporting that WWWE was indeed extremely interested in signing British sensation Will Ospreay for the upcoming WWE Cruiserweight Classic.

As soon as the tournament was announced Ospreay's name was floated around as a likely competitor, a rumour that died soon after when Ospreay signed a two-year deal with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

It transpires that it was this deal that got in the way of the whole thing, understandably. Word on the street (well, the newsletter) is that WWE is still hopeful of signing the 22 year old high flyer, and is actually negotiating with New Japan to find a way to make this happen.

Will Ospreay is the talk of the international wrestling scene at the moment. His match with Ricochet in the recently-completed NJPW Best of the Super Juniors was one of the most talked about in recent memory, either being a showcase of pure athleticism or glorified gymnastics depending on your preference. Ospreay has also been confirmed for What Culture Pro Wrestling's forthcoming shows at the end of July.

It is difficult to guess how this current situation will pan out, but it is likely that Ospreay will find himself under WWE employment before he reaches the latter end of his third decade. Enjoy him outside of WWE while you can.
