4. Fantomex

Fantomex might be a better fit for an appearance in a Deadpool movie, but we don’t yet know for definite how much the Merc With A Mouth will crossover, if at all. With that in mind, it’s worth speculating that Weapon XIII could turn up at some point.

They’re likely to include the Weapon Plus program at some point, as Wolverine is a cert to join the MCU once they finally figure out mutants. If that’s the case, they may retcon Deadpool’s origin to link to the same program.

Of course, they may go the other way and invent a different origin for Wolverine, not tied to Weapon Plus, Stryker or Deadpool’s established movie backstory at all. Marvel’s decision on this will either open the door to Fantomex or shut him out.

Fantomex is an escapee of the Weapon Plus program, originally designed as a super sentinel to keep the mutant population in line. He ends up injured on the run and asks Professor X for asylum; it’s a rich story which deserves on screen exploration, but probably needs other mutant storylines to lay the groundwork for him first. A future long shot for leader, perhaps?
