8. The Leader Tease That Was Never Paid Off - The Incredible Hulk

The Incredible Hulk is like the red-headed stepchild of the MCU family; well, the angry, green-skinned stepchild anyway. While Marvel acknowledges it exists it’s kind of forgotten too, and is best known for the studio falling out with star Ed Norton than anything that happens in the story.

Marvel envisioned a series featuring The Hulk, but the lukewarm reception and their frosty relationship with Norton put paid to those notions. This means the teaser involving Samuel Sterns, who gets some Hulk blood on a head wound and starts mutating into The Leader, comes to nothing. This would have set him up as a key villain in the sequel, but due to the aforementioned issues that never happened.

Sterns and his mutation are never brought up again in the MCU, which is a pretty big dangling thread for those who care about story continuity. Maybe he’ll show up down the road, but for now, this teaser is quite annoying considering its lack of payoff.
