Spider-Man: Far From Home Actor Confirms Mysterio & Nick Fury
With Maria Hill joining too, could S.H.I.E.L.D. be involved after all?
Following reports that Mysterio, Chameleon and Nick Fury all look set to join in Spider-Man: Far From Home, it now looks as though another is hopping aboard - Cobie Smulders' Maria Hill.
Smulders' S.H.I.E.L.D. agent was last seen in the post-credits sequence of Avengers: Infinity War, and was promptly turned to dust alongside longtime comrade Nick Fury while they were tracking a number of extra-terrestrial signals during Thanos' invasion. As is the case with most of the characters snapped out of existence however, it looks as though Hill will return, with Far From Home actor Numan Acar (himself thought to be playing Chameleon), having confirmed Smulders' presence on set, alongside some other - potentially more significant - details too.
In an Instagram post that has since been edited to remove all its hashtags, the actor let slip that both Hill and Fury would feature in the Homecoming sequel, and offered the first official confirmation that Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing Mysterio as well.
But what does this tell us about Far From Home? The film is currently shooting around the London area, and with past rumours having stated that Spidey will be taken out of his New York comfort zone and abroad in the sequel, the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D. is involved all but confirms their legitimacy - especially when you factor in the Chameleon's roots in international espionage.
Also interesting, perhaps, is the use of the hashtags 'world' and 'universe'. Could the sequel begin to introduce alternate realities and worlds? Perhaps (we really don't know just how far from home Peter will get), but at least we have confirmation of Gyllenhaal's villain and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s inclusion.
