Chelsea Transfers: 7 Worst Ever Mourinho Signings

By Joseph Dempsey /

4. Tal Ben Haim

Tal Ben Haim was the third and final player signed on a free by Mourinho in 2007 and much like the aforementioned two, failed to leave a lasting imprint on Chelsea. The centre-back had put in a number of solid defensive displays for former club Bolton Wanderers prior to his move and had attracted interest from the likes of West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur, but when his contract expired at the Reebok he signed as a free agent for the Blues. He made his competitive debut against Manchester United in the Community Shield due to injuries to fellow centre backs John Terry and Ricardo Carvalho, and remained a regular in the Chelsea first team afterwards. However, following the recovery of the first team pairing of Terry and Carvalho, coupled with the impressive form of Alex, Ben Haim found himself to be the fourth choice centre back. The Israeli only made 13 league appearances at Stamford Bridge and was sold to Manchester City in 2008.
