The moves comes as pressure mounts on Gunners manager Arsene Wenger to make headway in this summer's transfer market following his side's 3-1 home defeat to Aston Villa on the opening day of the Premier League. And news that he wants Cabaye shifts pressure onto his North East contemporary Alan Pardew, who is now in a fight to keep hold on one of his key players. For Pardew, this summer has been more about retaining the stars he has got rather than bringing in new recruits, with club captain Fabricio Coloccini and more recently last season's top goalscorer Papiss Cisse threatening to walk out at various stages.
