Newcastle United: 7 Most Memorable Moments In Silver

5. Waddle, McDermott, Keegan Grab Point In The Capital - Fulham vs NUFC (Division Two, March 1984)

In a dramatic clash with Fulham on Guy Fawkes Night in 1983, Newcastle found themselves 2-1 down with two minutes to go, only for David Mills and Kenny Wharton to turn things around and spark delirium inside St. James€™ Park. And any hopes the rematch on the banks of the Thames would be a sedate affair a little over three months later were quickly quashed by two goals in a minute. United took the lead in front of the Match of the Day cameras when Peter Beardsley got on the end of John Trewick€™s knock-down to score with an opportunist overhead kick. But from the restart, the home side drew level in an instant and took the lead 20 minutes later, leaving the Magpies staring at defeat in the capital for a third time in the 1983-84 season. Resplendent in their silver shirts with black pinstripes, however, the Toon grabbed a point when Terry McDermott latched onto Chris Waddle€™s clever pass and crossed for Kevin Keegan to head home from close range.
