3. Peter Beardsley Earns His Spurs - Tottenham Hotspur vs NUFC (Division One, August 1986)

There was something of a buzz about Tottenham Hotspur ahead of the 1986-87 season, thanks largely to the masterful Glenn Hoddle, poacher Clive Allen and former Magpies favourite Chris Waddle. So when Newcastle United came to town for Spurs€™ first home match of the campaign under new manager David Pleat, most put their money on an emphatic home win. But with Martin Thomas in good form between the posts for the Toon, the North Londoners were only a goal to the good at the break thanks to a swirling cross from Waddle€”who else?€”that was stabbed home by Allen. The White Hart Lane crowd fully expected another after the restart, but the visitors hung on admirably despite an onslaught from Pleat€™s men. And they got their reward with just three minutes remaining when Peter Beardsley raced through and beat Ray Clemence with a typically clever finish to make it 1-1.
