3. Matt Smith Will Be The Thirteenth Doctor

Just like the "this new character is actually the Master!" rumours, the rumours that a current Doctor will regenerate into a past Doctor are really popular within the fanbase.

Pretty much every single time a regeneration is inbound, there'll be rumours that someone like David Tennant or Paul McGann might make a surprise appearance as the next incarnation of the Doctor, and as we all know, this is always total rubbish.

The most recent example of this - and possibly the biggest example, judging by how much coverage it received - was that Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor would regenerate into Matt Smith as the Thirteenth Doctor, a role that hadn't been cast at the time.

Most people with two brain cells could tell that this was absolute crap, but the rumour appeared everywhere from fan forums to news sites in 2016/2017, before being dispelled with the announcement that Jodie Whittaker would succeed Peter Capaldi.
