11 Biggest Problems With The Chris Chibnall Doctor Who Era

3. The Awful Scripts

It's evident that Chris Chibnall has plenty of skill in the writing field (he wouldn't have got to where he is if he didn't) but very little of that has materialised in his tenure as Doctor Who showrunner. To make matters worse, the majority of the individual episode writers have done a terrible job too.

Aside from some good dialogue moments, the writing in Series 11 & 12 simply haven't been up to scratch. None of the characters develop or get arcs, the jokes are flat, there's very little in the way of suspense, three out of the four main characters (Graham being the one exception) are very badly written, the stories are boring, and it's all overloaded with clunky, exposition-based dialogue.

In other words, this is not how one of the world's most beloved TV shows should be written. When you look at how brilliantly the first four seasons of NuWho were written by Russell T Davies and his terrific team of writers, as well as the often-awesome (albeit inconsistent) writing in the Moffat seasons, the inadequacies of the Chibnall era only become even more obvious.
