Doctor Who Review: In The Forest Of The Night - 10 Ways The Story Grew

For Clara solving the mystery is first and foremost while Danny cares more about the safety of the children. The implications here are problematic. Clara was not depicted in a flattering light. Perhaps this was an attempt at subverting sexist gender roles but it came across as a criticism of Clara choosing work over children. Clara€™s been trained by the Doctor to see the big picture so of course her focus would be on solving the crisis. Yet her attempt at taking control is treated with a kind of derision even though her character has the most experience in dealing with these kinds of situations. There is a disturbing subtext within the depiction of Clara€™s character this series. Clara€™s desire to go on adventures and see the universe is treated as a bad thing. Is it only OK for young women to travel with the Doctor as long as they don€™t forget their traditional place in society?
