My personal favorite moments in this episode are reaction shots. Someone will says something, and a character will just sit and react to it for a moment. Jenna-Louise Coleman nails this, blowing me away every time the camera lingers on her face, throwing up conflicting emotions like crazy. My favorite of these shots is a subtle moment, intentionally missable. Claras inquiring about who River Song is, and she asks the Doctor if shes what like, an ex? And he tightly snaps out yes an ex. Then Claras face does this: She then puts whatever those emotions are aside and brings the Doctor some tea. Exactly why she looks like this is up for interpretation: is she hurt by this confirmation of her suspicions about River? Is she thrown by how dismissive the Doctor is? Is she upset that he kept this whole thing obscured from her? Its impossible to be sure, but what we do know is that this particular moment of acting is absolutely amazing. And thats all Ive got.
