Star Trek: Every Starfleet Uniform Ranked From WORST To BEST

61. Crewman Utility Uniform - Late 2270s/Mid 2290s

The utility jumpsuits that first appeared in The Wrath Of Khan for enlisted crewmembers were reuses of those original jumpsuits from The Motion Picture. When Producer Bob Sallin joined the crew for the sequel, he was one of the supporters in changing the uniforms between films.

Rather than start entirely from scratch, these jumpsuits were retained and tested with various dyes in an attempt to see which of them would look best on-screen, and in which colour. Maroon showed up well, helping to direct the colour palette of the overall film.

While the principal cast would receive an entirely new wardrobe, these jumpsuits were used extensively between The Wrath Of Khan and The Undiscovered Country. The latter film introduced several service variants, including the one with raised shoulders seen on the uniforms worn by the galley staff on the Enterprise-A.
