Star Trek: Every Starfleet Uniform Ranked From WORST To BEST

45. Dress Uniform - Mid/Late 2260s

In the mid/late-2260s, a new dress uniform entered service. The female versions were similar to the standard skirt/dress worn aboard ship, though with added detailing and piping. The male variants were adorned with a gold collar, from which a gold highlight ran down the front.

Though these uniforms appeared several times in The Original Series, Scotty's dress uniform from The Savage Curtain is a particular highlight. According to The World Of Star Trek by David Gerrold, James Doohan suggested that he wear a kilt when Abraham Lincoln beamed aboard. Doohan recalled the producers loving the idea, jumping on it and ensuring authenticity:

They sent to Scotland for the Scott tartan, which is one of the really old tartans.

These dress uniforms appeared in both live-action and animation, making another appearance in The Counter-Clock Incident.
