10 Great Matches From WCW's Final Year

6. Lt. Loco vs. Juventud Guerrera (Bash At The Beach - July, 2000)

As aforementioned, Bash At The Beach 2000 was an event dominated by what went down between Vince Russo and Hulk Hogan, but it's important to remember that there were some great matches on the card. Booker T vs. Jeff Jarrett was highlighted in a previous entry, but another corker took place earlier in the show. Opening the card up in fine style, Chavo Guerrero battled Juventud Guerrera for the WCW Cruiserweight Title. What aided the match and made it so refreshing was then-WCW Commissioner Ernest Miller banning both the Filthy Animals and Misfits In Action from ringside. This allowed both Chavo - then known as Lieutenant Loco - and Guerrera to focus on piecing together a memorable match, not relying on bags of interference from their respective groups. Opening shows with these Cruiserweight exhibitions was always a good idea, and something WCW really did right. A beautiful Tornado DDT from Chavo won the match, but fans were left wondering what could follow the smooth action they'd just witnessed. Let's be honest, it wasn't the next bout, which had Big Vito defending the Hardcore Title against Normal Smiley and Ralphus!
