Case in point, putting the WCW World Title - a belt which had been held by the likes of Ric Flair, Sting and Hulk Hogan - on a mid-level Hollywood actor. So much has been written about the promotion's decision to award David Arquette the WCW Title that it's impossible not to retread on old ground when exploring his time as champion. During a tag-team match on an episode of Thunder in April, 2000, Arquette - who teamed with DDP - pinned Eric Bischoff, former Hardcore Champ, to shock the world. Sure, the world were shocked, shocked that WCW would be so silly as to dangle their most prized title over the precipice. Long time wrestling fans were disgusted, but to Arquette's credit, he apparently advised against the move to make him champion, realising that enthusiasts would hate it. Donating all the money he earned during this time to charity, Arquette deserves credit for trying to make the best of a bad decision, but it's not him wrestling fans were angry with, it was World Championship Wrestling, a company gambling with their future by making such a move.
