10 Times WWE Totally WASTED Money In The Bank

3. Otis (2020)

WWE was firing everything they had into the abyss in 2020, because what do you even mean they chose Otis as that year's Mr Money in the Bank?

Otis is fun. He embraces his eccentricities, acting as a beacon that being different does not equate to being a freak - unless you're a slightly rotund, bearded fella who makes unorthodox facial expressions and speaks primarily in gibberish grunts, but has somehow landed a WWE contract. Vince McMahon preyed on those sorts of wrestlers his entire executive career because he, if nobody else, would get a laugh out of it. It's why he orchestrated the love triangle between Otis, Dolph Ziggler, and Mandy Rose.

Winning Money in the Bank, however, was a step too far.

Otis was a sensible inclusion in the lineup. Money in the Bank was the first pay-per-view after WrestleMania 36 where, again, Otis sealed the deal with a kiss on Mandy Rose's lips, so his push was still ongoing, but having him win the whole thing? It reeked of WWE being desperate to pop a rating.

Otis, obviously, was never going to win either the WWE or Universal Championships, so he lost the briefcase to The Miz at Hell in a Cell after what felt like an eternity of back-and-forth scuttle. He's still around today, but nowhere near competing in the 2026 Money in the Bank match.

Good.
