4. Eric Bischoff Challenges Vince McMahon To PPV Fight

Eric Bischoff was the man in 1998, or at least that's how the WCW head honcho felt. Even into '98, his company were still holding their own against Vince McMahon's WWF. McMahon's group had started to reverse their fortunes, but WCW still considered themselves top dogs. Likely feeling threatened, Bischoff challenged McMahon to show up at Slamboree 1998 and fight him. This was a major selling point for the Pay-Per-View, but it wasn't a storyline. Eric was serious about his proposal, and some WWF officials - such as Bruce Prichard - would later tell that McMahon considered the offer. That would have been foolish, because he would have then been giving Bischoff exactly what he wanted. WCW would have looked like the bigger product had Vince shown up on their PPV. The whole thing never came to pass, but Bischoff was handed a hokey win when McMahon 'no showed' for Slamboree. Imagining Eric Bischoff and Vince McMahon actually fighting on a WCW-branded Pay-Per-View should give some indication of how serious the war was in the late-90's. It's downright insane to think it could have feasibly happened.
