101 Shocking Wrestling Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened

86. X-Pac’s Late-In-The-Day Return

Sami Zayn has always been passionate about presenting 2 things: Good matches and good stories that honour everyone's love for pro wrestling. In 2019, he pitched wrestling Sean 'X-Pac' Waltman in a shock return bout for the legend at SummerSlam. Wait, why didn't they bloody go for this?! It would've been fab.

Vince McMahon (presumably) wasn't into the thought of X-Pac's theme blaring over the speakers on the midcard, but he did give a stamp of approval to Goldberg vs. Dolph Ziggler and a rotten double countout finish to Kofi Kingston vs. Randy Orton on the same show. Hmm, what was that about latter day Vince losing his marbles?

Zayn was really into the thought of tangling with a former D-Generation X member on one of the biggest nights of the entire year. He had fond memories of working with Waltman in CHIKARA (why did nobody do a Shakira knock-off song for that promotion? 'CHIKARA, CHIKARA!') back in 2011.

Back then, Sami was El Generico and Sean was The 1-2-3 Kid, which must've been a real treat for those in attendance at CHIKARA's King Of Trios lineup that year. Sadly, WWE's casual fanbase didn't get to see the pair run it back in 2019 at SummerSlam.

Anyone wondering if Sean would've been able to hang with Sami by 2K19 needn't worry - Waltman still wrestled fairly frequently up until around 2022-ish, so he would've been totally fine out there on WWE's watch. Plus, he and Zayn could've just done a loose version of their 2011 match to keep things simple.
