101 Shocking Wrestling Plans You Won't Believe Almost Happened

77. “Self” Is Hornswoggle As A Muppet

R-Truth squeezed a fair bit out of his invisible "Little Jimmy" sidekick for years, but he eventually moved on from referencing his very own unseen Jiminy Cricket in promos every single time. In 2010, stranded ex-tag teamer JTG was looking for something to jumpstart his own singles prospects after splitting from Cryme Tyme pal Shad Gaspard (RIP).

He landed on a 'devil on the shoulder' idea, and thought Hornswoggle would be a neat fit for the role if he fancied dressing up for it. According to JTG's scheme, Horny would become "Self" and basically be a reflection of the worst aspects of J's psyche. So, when he was faced with a moral dilemma, "Self" would always encourage him to follow the most negative path and be a heel.

That'd lead to an internal struggle with JTG always trying to do the right thing but knowing that it might not be self-serving or beneficial to his career. The whole plan sounds rather interesting, to be honest, but there's no way 2010 WWE could've been trusted to handle it properly. It 100% would've degenerated into crummy comedy quickly.

The out there twist would be that other wrestlers wouldn't be able to see "Self", but fans watching on screens in the arena and at home would be able to. Yes, yes this conjures up thoughts of Warrior appearing in Hollywood Hogan's mirror during a regrettable 1998 feud in WCW. Put another way, the whole gimmick would need fans to suspend disbelief to the extent of acknowledging that they themselves were insane.
