96. A Different Kind Of Evolution

Evolution is a mystery. Or not. The famous faction married Ric Flair's Four Horsemen heritage with Triple H's star power and the twin rising forces of Randy Orton and Batista. RKO was the young buck and big Dave was the muscle. It was a blend that just worked from the off, so imagine how different things would've been had Mark Jindrak been involved instead of the 'Animal'.

You know Jindrak - he was one of the Natural Born Thrillers towards the tail end of WCW's lifespan, and he seemed to have all the tools to succeed. Unfortunately for Mark, his immaturity irked Hunter on the road. 'The Game' also thought that Jindrak brought out the worst in Orton, so something had to give and it wasn't gonna be Randy.

Batista was placed in Evolution as Mark's replacement, and that was a wrap on Jindrak's chances of becoming a success story in WWE. However, the promotion did film some footage with Mark in the gang. It's very telling though. Flair, Hunter and Orton looked like a unit, but Jindrak was off to the side like their chauffeur or something.

Given that Evolution dominated Raw's spotlight for a long time and their break up led to WrestleMania headline wonders like Trips vs. Dave, it's fascinating to think of someone else moonlighting for Batista. Sorry, but there's no chance that Hunter vs. Jindrak would've gone on last at 'Mania 21. People wouldn't even have booked that to main event in SmackDown vs. Raw on PS2!

This was definitely one stablemate switch that worked out for the best, and it's shocking that anything else was considered.
