Reigns actually built some momentum as a virulent ass-kicker in December, winning the belt back from Sheamus in the process. Just when it seemed like they'd turned a corner by booking their brutish champion correctly, the effect wore off. When Reigns was booked to defend the title in the Rumble match as the first entrant, fans feared he'd go over on the whole roster. Reigns was taken out halfway through the match by the League of Nations, which gave him 1) thirty minutes of rest, and 2) a chance to learn the new finish, which would see him come in third place, not second. With Orlando doing their best Philadelphia impression by booing Reigns, the booking changed to have Ambrose finish as runner-up instead. This was so the crowd wouldn't cheer Triple H during the two-man showdown, though the boss received a deafening ovation for dumping Reigns just prior.
