25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2020
3. Drew McIntyre Squashes Erick Rowan’s Spider
Drew McIntyre's latest WWE Title reign won't be complete until Erick Rowan leaves The Wyatt Sicks and seeks revenge for his giant spider. Just saying. An angle from the 9 March 2020 Raw must haunt Rowan. Only kidding. The big guy has likely done everything he can think of to forget about this experimental booking.
He went from hanging around with Daniel Bryan in a top spot on SmackDown to carrying around a mysterious cage and protecting it like a Crufts-winning dog was in there. WWE blatantly didn't have an ironclad plan for what was in the cage, so they had Erick reveal that it was a big arachnid before McIntyre smashed it to smithereens with the steel steps.
Yeah, the pre-pandemic bit of 2020 was just as crazy as events after mid-March, to be honest.
Drew had won the Royal Rumble and was pushing towards a WWE Title showdown with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 36, so why was he getting involved in Rowan's creepy pet business in the first place? WWE even missed out on having the Scot turn to the camera and bellow, 'I've taken care of one beast, and now I'm coming for another at 'Mania'. What might've been.
At least WWE.com had the sense to include this blurb when recapping Raw: "A potential preview for what awaits at WrestleMania. No options left unexplored, nothing off the table, no regrets". That was snappy, but it needed to be on the show proper.
Rowan's going nowhere monster in a cage sideshow, meanwhile, defo didn't.
