25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2023
10. AEW Sign Up Ric Flair
Ric Flair is one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. He's a man who will forever be a top contender to be on wrestling's Mount Rushmore, his mic work influenced generations, his work rate is to be marvelled at, and his storytelling is the stuff of legend. However, this was all the case a long time ago. At Flair's age, he hasn't (nor should he have) anything to give to the world of professional wrestling nowadays.
Being brought in as part of Sting's retirement storyline, the 'Nature Boy' instantly showed that his ability as a talker had left him. Coming the year after his disastrous final match, Flair has no business being on wrestling television in 2023.
Watching him in this state just felt sad to anyone with reverence for Flair's illustrious career.
Leaving aside the moral question of employing Flair after the 'Plane Ride From Hell' episode of 'Dark Side Of The Ring' left his reputation in tatters, AEW always felt like a place that has thrived when hiring the stars of the future not relics of the past. Flair never fit the face of Tony Khan's company, and his appearances were sparse, but his 25 October 2023 debut was one of the most uncomfortable AEW moments of the year.
