25 Worst Wrestling Moments Of 2023
4. Roman Reigns Wrestles Just 7 Televised Matches
One of the other things that became apparent after Roman Reigns defeated Cody is that the WWE Title wasn't going to be on television very much. In fact, after WrestleMania 39 ended with the 'Tribal Chief' celebrating his victory, the belt was only defended twice throughout the rest of the calendar year (against Jey Uso at SummerSlam and LA Knight in Saudi Arabia).
This became such a problem that WWE had to create a whole new title belt so that the rest of the roster weren't kicking their heels and waiting for Roman to turn up on TV.
The idea of making Roman a special attraction is one that has paid dividends, but having the WWE Championship be unattainable due to a lack of attendance from the champion really began to grate in 2023. Roman actually had one less match than this in 2024, but it was less of a distraction or cause for concern when he wasn't holding the championship and forcing the whole main event scene to orbit pretty much nothing.
Being fair, Reigns made the matches he was in count, but there just weren't anywhere near enough of them.
