2. Women’s Match Doesn’t Click On Different Levels

WWE

One would think a match involving Becky Lynch, Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan would be an easy match-of-the-night contender, but Saturday’s Women’s World Championship match fell short of expectations.

The match marched from spot to spot, looking like so many other WWE triple threats, but also including a few awkward exchanges and setups. It was fine in a sense, but nowhere near what one might expect. The finishing sequence – considered in a vacuum – came off pretty well, but the result raised a different concern.

What was the point of Vaquer’s title win, other than to pop the crowd in her home country of Chile? La Primera won the title because special guest referee Lynch intervened, thus nullifying the pure babyface triumph vibe and giving the heel Morgan ammunition to complain about being cheated.

Then, the super-hard babyface champion Vaquer causes a disqualification in the number one contender’s match for her title, screaming that she’ll fight both women because she’s a real champion… and she loses cleanly to the heel.

If anything, this match made Vaquer out to be a complete chump and a fluke champion this go-round. She got her hometown pop and lost the title a few weeks later back to the person she beat (with help). What an absolute dud of booking.
