3. David Versus Goliath Never Fails

Never underestimate Rusev’s ability to simultaneously play the role of a clown and a monster to great effect.

The Bulgarian Brute squared off against Rey Mysterio in a fun little match Monday night for the right to challenge Penta next for the Intercontinental Championship. The match opened with Rey chopping Rusev on the back, leading to a chase around the ring that cartoonishly saw Mysterio perform a 619 to evade Rusev, who tumbled to the floor.

The match continued this pattern of Rey relying on his speed to evade Rusev and his power game, but he would occasionally get caught, putting the Bulgarian in the driver’s seat. Rusev caught a 619 attempt and tried to apply the Accolade, only for Rey to once again escape and roll him up for the win.

While the match itself was fun and fine, it was bolstered by Ethan Page on commentary, making side comments throughout as he encouraged Rusev but also negged him whenever Mysterio took over. When Rey picked up the win, Ethan let out a quick “Dammit!” in frustration.

The post-match hijinks saw Dragon Lee run down to save Rey from a two-on-one beatdown, setting up what could be a fun tag match between the four and gets Dragon back on television. Call that a win-win.
