6. Women’s Tag Gets There Eventually
It’s tempting to rate the women’s tag match between the Kabuki Warriors and Bayley and Lyra Valkyria as a negative because the first two-thirds bombed in front of the audience, but the closing moments salvaged the contest.
Fans sat on their hands during the initial stages of the match, coming to life a bit when Lyra hit a Liger Bomb on Kairi Sane, and then the Pirate Princess reversed a stalling suplex into a DDT. They finally came alive when Bayley went nuts on the outside, planting Asuka on the announce desk with a Bayley-to-Belly and attempting an elbow drop off the barricade – but missed.
Valkyria picked up the win for her team, staying true to her pledge to help get Bayley a match at WrestleMania 42. The win set them up to challenge the Women’s Tag Team Champions next week at Madison Square Garden. It’s doubtful they’ll win the titles; the more likely scenario is that shenanigans unfold with multiple teams getting involved to set up a multi-team match – perhaps involving ladders – at 'Mania.
Regardless, this was fine for what it was and once again serves as a reminder that Lyra is woefully underutilized as an in-ring talent.
