6 Ups & 6 Downs From WWE Raw (3 Aug - Results & Review)
Roman finally shows more than shades of gray, female champs return, Gable is a hit, Big Cass is not.
Coming out of SummerSlam, WWE was going to start charting some new paths for its biggest stars, with several feuds actually winding to a close.
They responded by doing two things that could prove to be very smart if the execution of these moments goes well.
Two former women’s world champions returned to Raw Monday night, bolstering a women’s division that was seriously lacking firepower and in desperate need of stars. Becky Lynch and Stephanie Vaquer could and should provide that proverbial shot in the arm. While Liv Morgan’s first 100 days as Women’s World Champion were devoid of any challenges, creating a lot of movement around her could revitalize the title scene and the division as a whole.
Then there’s Roman Reigns, who has been playing either a tweener or a straight babyface while his cousins in the Bloodline act more and more heelish. That finally might be coming to a head after some of Reigns’ actions Monday night seemed to strongly hint at a new direction for him.
Monday night also saw the official return of Big Cass, and… let’s just say that early returns don’t look great, but it’s incredibly early, and they could perform a 180 pretty easily. It’s not that Cass looked terrible, but the words “generic heel” sprang to mind.
All told, this wasn’t a bad episode, closing out with two decent-to-good matches and that interesting angle involving Roman.
