4. Oba Rewrites Brock Feud
No matter how you slice it, Oba Femi and Brock Lesnar didn’t need to go to a trilogy, and they certainly didn’t need to finish their rivalry in a Hell in a Cell match where the cell barely came into play during their Paul Heyman-coded fight.
But now that it’s happened and Lesnar endorsed Femi afterward, the real question heading into Monday was what Oba did next. During an in-ring promo, Femi talked about having a newfound respect for Brock. The Ruler retconned the feud by suggesting that he misinterpreted Lesnar’s motives, that Brock came back after WrestleMania to test Oba and determine if he really was the next Next Big Thing.
Oba said that WrestleMania was a question of whether he could swim in the deep waters, but SummerSlam was a question of how long could he hold his breath. After enduring the cell, he passed the test, and the Beast could finally rest.
Femi then turned his attention to his destiny and how he was going to forge his own way, leading a new crop of talent to topple “the old guard.”
The truth is that Oba is in a bit of a weird spot. He just beat the outgoing(?) monster and presumably can’t still challenge for a world title via his King of the Ring victory, though Corey Graves made an allusion to it.
Femi turned the Brock feud into something with more purpose and made it even sound poetic. From his telling, the feud almost seemed purposeful. That’s no small task. Regardless, Oba made it clear that she’s survived the test and is ushering in a new era with “a new crop of talent.”
That sounds intriguing. Might even buy a ticket for that show.
