3. Knight Riles Roman, Bloodline
If Roman Reigns and the Bloodline needed a chief antagonist heading into the final stretch of summer, they found it Monday night in LA Knight.
The Megastar wasted little time in launching into Roman, calling him a fraud and demanding a World Heavyweight Championship match with no interference. Reigns sidestepped him, so LA ramped up the insults, calling out Roman harder and trying to get under his skin.
It clearly worked, because Roman was next seen backstage gritting his teeth and grumbling about needing to address Knight and telling his cousins to leave him alone. This gave us one last fun moment with LA, who walked by having overheard the Tribal Chief. He tried to provoke hothead Jey Uso, warning him that he didn’t “want daddy to come back and put you across his knee.”
LA very likely will fall short in his latest quest, but he’s succeeding at getting a reaction out of Roman, who spent much of the Seth Rollins feud no-selling Seth’s antics.
There also were hints of Reigns finally breaking that mask of being a babyface while he seethed about Knight backstage. There’s no guarantee that leads somewhere, but the simple fact is that Roman and his cousins haven’t been aligned as faces and heels, and Reigns letting his mask slip a bit is actual storyline advancement, courtesy of the Megastar.
