5. The Undertaker Can’t Say No To Vince McMahon

Rewatch The Undertaker's 'Last Ride' documentary series (whenever you can find it post-WWE Network demise) and you'll hear the man himself repeat one thing persistently throughout. He found it very, very difficult to say no to Vince McMahon when his old boss needed 'Taker as some sort of 'in emergency break glass' attraction towards the end of his career.

'The Deadman' knew he was sucking wind in-ring against the likes of Roman Reigns and Goldberg, but he'd always been loyal to McMahon and performed well past his best just because Vince asked him to. Nothing outrageous there, right? No, not really, but then go back and find the 1 June 1998 episode of Raw.

There, 'Taker cut a shoot-style promo moaning about a rematch vs. Kane by calling himself a foot soldier who’d always been loyal to McMahon and thus couldn’t say no. In 1998! That was a full 22 years before the 'Phenom' eventually hung up his boots for good by bowing out following a cinematic match vs. AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36.

Enough was enough for him by 2020, but it's incredible to think that The Undertaker was thinking about all of this back during the 'Attitude Era'. It was also rather strange to see him in sweats rather than his usual Undertaker attire. This was less 'Deadman' and more Mark Calaway than anyone cared to admit in '98.

On that forgotten Raw Is War, he revealed the truth: McMahon could easily tug on 'Taker's sentimentality towards him whenever he liked. Yes, even back then. Plenty more of it would be waiting in the future even though the icon was physically knackered.
