Having been on the sidelines since January, WWE's Apollo Crews made his long-awaited return to the ring last night for AAA.

The former Intercontinental Champion was in action in a dark match prior to AAA Alianzas, answering an open challenge from Lince Dorado. Crews picked up the win after hitting his patented gorilla press drop/standing moonsault combo.

For those unaware, Apollo Crews had been out of action due to a pec tear suffered in a match against Johnny Gargano on a January episode of SmackDown. Despite that injury, Apollo finished that match and even secured the win before he later announced on social media that he'd be undergoing surgery for a torn pec.

It remains to be seen whether this AAA appearance was simply a one-off or whether Crews is set for a run with the Mexican promotion. Prior to his injury, the 38-year-old was a part of the SmackDown brand, so it'll be interesting to see if he's slotted back in there. Of course, with Ilja Dragunov currently running a weekly open challenge for his United States Champion - a title Apollo has previously held himself - Crews could be an ideal surprise candidate to challenge the Mad Dragon as a way to bring him back to WWE TV.
