One MIND-BLOWING Secret From EVERY WWE WrestleMania

3. WrestleMania 39 | Gimme Another Hell Yeah

Stone Cold Steve Austin made his shocking in-ring return at WrestleMania 38. It wasn’t even “long-awaited”; fans had given up on the idea well over a decade before it happened.

It was a total blast, too, Vince’s last great feat as a promoter. Not clarifying that it would actually happen was a masterstroke. People didn’t get their hopes up - which meant they couldn’t set their expectations too high. A crowd-pleasing fusion of daft sports entertainment and a pulsating, painful-looking crowd brawl, for what it was, it was perfect. Obviously, people wanted another go of it. Austin took a suplex on exposed concrete. Surely, he could do it again. He thought so too, if the November 21, 2022 Observer is accurate.

In it, Dave mentioned that there had been a lot of “talk” about another Austin return - and that “all we know for sure is that there is smoke to the fire and something is in the discussion phase”. Dave also threw around a list of ideal opponents, while noting that internal discussions were being kept secret.

Meltzer theorised that it was time for a bigger match, and interestingly, kept bringing up CM Punk’s name above all others - even though he was under AEW contract at the time. We know now that Punk wanted out before relenting and trying to make a go of Collision. We also know that Meltzer has a tendency to write in a cagey and evasive way if he knows something that he can’t outright publish. Surely, that match wasn’t actually discussed within WWE?!

WWE also discussed Brock Lesnar Vs. Gunther for WrestleMania 39, before settling on Vince McMahon’s “if you promise to give mommy a rest, you can have Brock Lesnar vs. Omos”.
