Original SummerSlam 2025 Plans For Seth Rollins Revealed (WWE News)
A major title match scrapped on PLE...
At SummerSlam, WWE almost booked a second World Heavyweight title match in as many days.
This is according to Dave Meltzer who, speaking recently on Wrestling Observer Radio, revealed that the promotion was "considering" booking new champion Seth Rollins to defend against LA Knight on night two of the PLE. While the reason for not moving ahead nor entertaining the idea in the first place wasn't cited, that is now irrelevant. WWE made the call to have Rollins defend against Knight in an impromptu Raw main event on Monday August 4 instead.
This stemmed from the angle shot at the most recent edition of Saturday Night's Main Event, at which Rollins faked a knee injury; on Raw, Knight insisted that Rollins only pretended to put himself on the injury list to get out of their match. The most recent Rollins Vs. Knight encounter ended when, to the latter's fury, CM Punk's interference caused a disqualification.
Opinion - We're Still Doing This?
The CM Punk Vs. Seth Rollins feud has unfolded directly or indirectly since late 2023. The events of Raw indicate that WWE are delaying the payoff for an even longer stretch of time; a Punk Vs. Knight subplot, which has real promise on the microphone at least, seems to be the short-to-medium term direction.
Punk Vs. Rollins feels somewhat uninspiring at this point, and Rollins in the top heel role has yet to ignite Raw's Netflix numbers. This is a feature of Paul Levesque's booking. The man sure does take his time. Whether he's taken too long in this instance is worth debating.
