Ranking Every WWE WrestleMania Main Event - From Worst To Best
3. 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin vs The Rock (WrestleMania 17)
After definitively rubberstamping themselves as the two biggest stars of their generation, 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and The Rock met in the headline match of WrestleMania 17 for the WWE Championship. It felt like the match of a lifetime for these two larger-than-life characters who'd spent so many years locked in feuds, matches, and moments that are cemented in the minds of fans forever, but nobody could have predicted the outcome of this night.
Suspicions should have arisen that not everything was as it seemed when the match was made No Disqualification on the night itself. It felt like an odd change to make for no discernible reason, but it certainly added to the intensity of the bout itself. Both men beat the ever-loving hell out of one another, with blood being shed, Jim Ross and Paul Heyman on superb form in the commentary booth, and The Rock and 'Stone Cold' willing to give their lives for the WWE Championship.
And then it happened. Ravaged from his earlier Street Fight with his son, Shane, Vince McMahon came to ringside for the match's conclusion. After The Rock kicked out of the Stunner, McMahon would hand Austin a steel chair to finish 'The People's Champ' off and win the title. 'Stone Cold' and McMahon were aligned, as JR screamed, "Austin is shaking hands with Satan himself." It is comfortably the most shocking moment of any WrestleMania main event.
